LawPALS Student Leaders 2017/18

About the role:

The purpose of the LawPALS programme is to provide first year students with the opportunity to join a peer assisted learning group and support their transition into Edinburgh Law School. Trained Student Leaders work in pairs to lead these groups to facilitate discussions around topics pertinent to the study of law, e.g. how to write a legal essay, finding legal resources, mooting. The time commitment includes one hour per week during semester one, two whole days of training on 7th and 8th of September, promotional events during the Welcome Week and leader meetings fortnightly throughout the first semester. These are paid positions remunerated in the form of a LawPALS Student Bursary, currently around £300.  Further details of the payment will be communicated to successful candidates.

To be considered for this role, candidates must possess the following skills and experience:

  • Currently enrolled in second or third year of their LLB (for 4-year LLB programme), or in the first year of their Grad LLB (for Graduate LLB programme).
  • Good planning, team-working and communication skills.
  • Have a positive attitude and flexible approach.
  • Experience of working within a peer-based programme (for example buddying, mentoring, coaching) is an advantage in this role (desirable but not essential).

How to Apply:

Please email lawpals@ed.ac.uk with a copy of your CV and two short paragraphs about why you would be a great Student Leader.

Please remember to include your matriculation number, and to notify us specifically which programme you are in, and if you are currently on a year abroad.

The deadline for applying is Wednesday 22 March at 5.00 pm, and interviews will take place in the week beginning 3 April.
